Day of Celebrations (and food)

Today was Jasmine’s birthday, and it started rather later than expected as all three kids (plus one as Jasmine had a friend sleeping over) didn’t wake up until 8am! Thank you kids!

We have a tradition on birthdays of ‘birthday breakfast’. Jasmine chose homemade pancakes, with squirty cream, chocolate sauce, smarties and mini-mallows. Not something I’d ever usually allow, but that is the point of the birthday breakfast. Presents were opened and much appreciated.

Then the kids presented me with my Father’s Day present of a hamper of delicious treats- cider, cheese, chutney, fudge…

A quick trip to the park, where the over-excited sugar saturated troop woke up the neighbourhood with their shrieking and giggling. Then off for lunch at a new pub nearby.

The place was full of families treating Dads, but there was also an obvious number of weekend Dads. Couldn’t help but think of all the Dads I know who do not see as much of their children as they should/could. Some Dads don’t put the effort in and others just can’t get past Mums who don’t see that a father’s influence is valuable.

I’m grateful for my children every day. Even when they are over-excited, over-tired and sticky with chocolate 🙂

Jasmine is soon to be Seven

It is Jasmine’s birthday this weekend. Cue birthday sleepover, cake making and pancakes for breakfast.

This is the first year she hasn’t browsed the Argos catalogue for months and then given me a hundred-strong list of gift suggestions. All she wanted was a basket for her bike and to join a club.

Purple and pink basket purchased.

Now for the club.

We have hunted high and low for suitable clubs on the right days. Jasmine and Logan spend Mondays and Wednesdays with their Mum, rather than with me and Jo, and almost every club seems to be on those nights. When we moved in December we found that the local brownie troop meets on a Thursday- hurrah! So we popped her on the waiting list, as you have to be 7 to start.

And serendipity strikes- we had an email to say that Jasmine could start Brownies last night. She spent a hugely enjoyable evening gigging, making cards, playing wink murder and tag and making “more than 10 friends”. Excited would be an understatement.

Lots more little gifts to wrap tonight. And a cake to bake. Jasmine has asked for her cake to look like her favourite doll, Dyna-Mite, so coloured icing has been purchased and the cake will be produced tonight. Well, Jo is doing that, I know my limits 🙂
